Ali Moradi

Ph.D in Geophysics

Dr. Ali Moradi is a distinguished Associate Professor at the Institute for Geophysics, University of Tehran, with a robust academic and research background in seismology and geophysics. Born on June 22, 1976, Dr. Moradi has dedicated his career to advancing our understanding of seismic phenomena, earning his Ph.D. from the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES) in Tehran. His doctoral research focused on seismicity, seismotectonics, and crustal studies of the Bam and Tabriz strike-slip zones, providing critical insights into these geologically active regions. Over the years, he has held various pivotal roles, including serving as the Head of the Seismology Department at the University of Tehran since 2020 and directing the Iranian Seismological Center from 2014 to 2020.

Dr. Moradi’s extensive research portfolio includes numerous collaborative projects and publications in esteemed scientific journals. His work spans from investigating seismic noise at Dam Karun4 stations to analyzing the focal mechanisms of earthquakes recorded by the Iranian Seismological Center. Notably, he has contributed to understanding the seismicity of major Iranian faults and the effects of explosions on lifelines. His research on seismic attenuation parameters in the Zagros region and the seismic anisotropy in the Makran subduction zone has significantly advanced the field. Dr. Moradi’s prolific output, including over 30 peer-reviewed articles, underscores his expertise and ongoing commitment to seismic research, making him a leading figure in the study of Iran’s complex tectonic landscape.
